Oman just quietly dropped a brand new visa option that makes spontaneous weekend trips way cheaper. If you have been eyeing a quick getaway to Muscat or the Hajar mountains without paying hefty bureaucratic fees, you'll want to pay attention.
Under fresh amendments to the Executive Regulations of the Foreign Residence Law, Oman has officially introduced a free 14-day tourist visa. Signed by Lieutenant General Hassan bin Mohsin Al Shuraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs, this change is already active after appearing in Official Gazette No. 1659. It's a direct push to lure more short-term visitors into the country without the usual entry friction.
What Actually Changed in the Regulations
The Royal Oman Police didn't just tweak a few guidelines; they permanently altered the legal framework. A brand new paragraph was slotted into Article 10 of the Executive Regulations. At the same time, an entry was added to Article 29, putting the fee squarely at zero Omani rials.
You aren't dealing with a temporary waiver or a promotional stunt. This is a standalone visa category built into the immigration system.

You will have to meet the standard requirements and pay the relevant fees for the longer visa, but avoiding a mandatory exit flight saves both time and money.
Who Qualifies Right Now
Here's the catch you need to know. Authorities haven't published the exact list of eligible nationalities yet.
The official wording states the visa is granted to citizens of countries "designated by the competent authority". Similar to past rollouts, the government tends to drop these lists in phases. If you're planning a trip this week, don't assume your passport is automatically covered until the Royal Oman Police updates its official portal or portal guidelines.
