The media wants you to believe that thousands of deaths in Nepal are simply the unavoidable price of geography. They point to steep slopes, heavy rainfall records, and fragile tectonic plates. They tell you that when water surges down narrow valleys, nothing could have been done.

That explanation is garbage.

I have walked those mountain corridors. I have watched heavy excavators tear hillsides apart to widen dirt roads without a single geotechnical survey, dumping the spoil straight down into river gorges.
